Silk screening is a stencil method of printing in which a design is created on a polyester screen with blank areas coated with an impermeable substance. A squeegee is then used to force ink into the mesh opening and onto the substrate. Each color is individually printed at a time, so a multi-color design can take several screens.
It is called silk screen printing because originally silk was used in the process before the invention of polyester. This process creates a very detailed and intricate picture, making silk screening an ideal way of printing shirt designs. Silk Screening is a versatile printing option that works on a variety of materials including balloons, clothing, snowboards, decals, and much more.
